What a difference a week makes

Michelle Obama hits it out of the park 90 percent of the time, fashion-wise. Up-and-coming designers, classic staples, and figure-accentuating dresses round out her wardrobe, making her one of the more aspirational first ladies in recent memory.

But the other 10 percent of the time, it's pretty bad.

Like these pants, which she wore on the return flight from her family's winter vacation in Hawaii.

Huffington Post calls these pants questionable. God knows I'm a sucker for a fleur de lis, and I'm lusting over white skinny jeans right now - but even I realize these are worse than questionable. They're a bit too tight and a bit too trashy.

But let's not get thorny without giving our first lady a rose.

On Monday, President Obama and his wife observed a moment of silence commemorating last weekend's tragic events in Tucson. Fitting of the solemn moment, Michelle Obama dressed conservatively in this Narciso Rodriguez coat. Coordinating perfectly with her husband, Michelle did not take away from the significance of the occasion.

We all have fashion misses, but Michelle Obama bounces back with the best of them.

  1. yikes. At first glance, they actually look dirty - like the fleur de lis are mud. Poor Michelle... oh well... she looks fab most of the time.
